The University of Liège is home to leading research groups in Separation Science and Gas Sensing. To consolidate our strengths in Analytical Chemistry and to streamline ULiège know-how, manpower, instruments, and infrastructures, the Academic Center of Excellence in Separation Science and Sensing (ACESSS) was established. ACESSS aims to reach a higher level of performance and promptly respond to a rapidly evolving and chemically complex world.

ACESSS brings together 5 distinguished research groups, each focusing on advanced analytical techniques such as (ion mobility-) mass spectrometry hyphenated with GC and LC for environmental contaminants, comprehensive GC´GC either or not coupled to LC for the characterization of small molecules, volatolomics, metabolomics, secondary metabolites and food contaminants, and chemical gas sensing among other applications.
ULiège-ACESSS focusses on two main interconnected pillars:
Emerge as a key player in the field of Analytical Chemistry in Europe, thereby enhancing competitiveness for national and international funding programs;
Develop groundbreaking research themes and exceptional analytical tools enhancing ULiège-ACESSS visibility.

Form a task force capable of swiftly responding to any request from society (e.g., environmental or food safety);
Strengthen the educational aspects to third parties through tailormade courses, trainings and informative events;
Provide tailor-made solutions to stakeholders and society.

ULiège-ACESSS envisions a comprehensive approach towards Exposomics, including upstream and downstream aspects, a field of research that would be unique, innovative and analytically support larger initiatives such as One Health.
